Lutheran Hope Cambodia Organization Hosts Field Visit for Dr. Chandran Paul Martin in Battambang Province

Battambang, Cambodia – The Lutheran Hope Cambodia Organization (LHCO), led by Ms. Thay Bone, Executive Director of LHCO and colleagues, organized a field visit for Dr. Chandran Paul Martin, Consulting Regional Representative for South/South Asia (ELCA), from February 20-21, 2025, in Battambang Province. On February 20, the visit commenced at the Agricultural Cooperative Bour Samiki Meanchey, located in Bour Commune, Phnom Prek District. Ms. Svay Mum, the AC committee representative provided a briefing on pure water products, cooperative activities, marketing strategies, and value chain development. During the visit, the delegation also met with Ms. Rang Chan Oun, a member of the women’s producer group specializing in pig farming. She shared insights into pig farming techniques, waste management practices, and the cooperative business model that supports small-scale farmers. On February 21, the visit continued to Boeung Pram Commune, Bavel District, where the delegation met Mr. Kun Chhaya, a member of the local producer group engaged in vegetable cultivation. He shared key aspects of vegetable production, post-harvest handling, cooperative sales strategies, and the challenges faced in market access. The delegation also visited Ms. Pov Oeun, a member of the women’s producer group focusing on poultry farming. She demonstrated poultry farming techniques and shared experiences on market linkages that enhance the sustainability of small-scale farmers. The field visit provided valuable insights into community-driven agricultural initiatives, showcasing the resilience and innovation of local farmers in Battambang Province. LHCO continues its commitment to empowering rural communities through sustainable agricultural practices and cooperative development.

LHCO Hosts Roundtable Discussion with Funding Partners to Strengthen Strategic Direction

Phnom Penh, Sunway Hotel, on February 19, 2025, the Lutheran Hope Cambodia Organization (LHCO) successfully organized a Roundtable Discussion with its funding partners. The event aimed to facilitate the exchange of insights on LHCO’s current strategic themes while gathering valuable input from partners to enhance the organization's long-term sustainability and impact. The discussion provided a platform for LHCO and its funding partners to collaboratively shape a concrete direction that ensures the sustainability of LHCO’s ecosystem. By fostering an open dialogue, the meeting enabled stakeholders to align their efforts in addressing key challenges and maximizing collective impact. Beyond strategic alignment, the roundtable also served as an opportunity to share challenges and lessons learned. Various partners brought forward their experiences in tackling the current global issues that affect LHCO’s initiatives. This exchange of knowledge allowed for a deeper understanding of shared obstacles and the development of innovative approaches to navigate the evolving landscape. By embracing collaboration and sustainable strategies, LHCO and its funding partners reaffirmed their commitment to driving meaningful change and fostering a resilient future. The insights gained from this discussion will play a crucial role in shaping LHCO’s upcoming initiatives and ensuring long-term success in achieving its mission. Signing Ceremony for the Grant Assistance for Grass Roots Human Security Project

On Friday morning, January 24, 2025, at the Multipurpose Hall of the Embassy of Japan. H.E. Mr. UENO Atsushi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Ms. Thay Bone, Executive Director of Lutheran Hope Cambodia Organization, signed a KUSANONE grant contract funded by the Government of Japan. The grant amount of USD 92,191 will be used for the construction of the new 6-classroom building together with the 5-unit toilet, one handwashing facility, and other school furniture for Kul Tuteung Primary School in Pursat Province. The project aims to contribute to promoting high-quality education and a safe learning environment for students in the community.

Launched the AC Digit Application

On December 26, 2024, Lutheran Hope Cambodia Organization (LHCO) launched the AC Digit Application at the Sunway Hotel in Phnom Penh. This innovative app is designed to support agricultural communities in managing their member data efficiently. The event aims to foster collaboration in promoting digital innovation, encourage reflections on the app's current functionality, and discuss potential improvements for future updates. The launching event was attended by 41 participants, including 22 women, representing various sectors. Attendees included representatives from the Ministry of Rural Development, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and the Ministry of Women’s Affairs. Civil society organizations such as the NGO Forum, CIRD, LHCO, and Diaconia were also present, alongside private sector representatives from Kokopon and BRAINCHAIN. Additionally, commune councils and community members from five provinces participated in the event.

School Trade Fair on Food Processing

On 18 December 2024, the Lutheran Hope Cambodia Organization (LHCO) with funding support from CZECH AID and Diaconia, organized the “School Trade Fair on Food Processing” at CJCC, Phnom Penh. The event was honored by the attendance of Mr. Kamil Pikal, Head of Development Section of Embassy of the Czech Republic to Cambodia; Mr. Bohumil Krejci, Project Coordinator at Diaconia ECCB-CRD; Ms. Thay Bone, Executive Director of the Lutheran Hope Cambodia Organization; and Dr. Chem Mouylin, Professor from the Royal University of Agriculture. Additionally, the fair welcomed media journalists, students, and teachers from five schools: Metapheap Khmer-Japan Sameakki Meanchey High School, Hun Sen Krang Samor High School, Hun Sen Tuek Phos High School, Hun Sen Samrong High School, and Hun Sen Onlong Chrey High School. Approximately 250 participants attended the event. All the students had the opportunity to learn from experts who shared valuable experience and knowledge on food processing, agriculture, and technology. Furthermore, the schools participated in a competition on food processing for meat and fruit. Lastly, we would like extend the greatest appreciate all students and teachers participated in this trade fair who worked hard and creative on foods processing.

Three Primary Schools in Kseth Borey Village Receive Solar Panels from HTHIUM Company Through the Amity Foundation and Lutheran Hope Cambodia Organization

On November 4, 2024, the Lutheran Hope Cambodia Organization (LHCO) organized Ceremony of the Community Energy Project in Cambodia to provide green electric to Sentreae Samaki, Mul Samaki, and Damnak Thlok Primary Schools in Sentreae Commune, Phnom Karvanh District, Pursat Province, Cambodia. These schools, located in a remote area with limited access to electricity, will receive 6 solar panels, 6 batteries, 2 fans, and additional equipment. This donation will significantly improve the learning environment for students by powering lights, fans, and other essential electrical devices. Representatives from Santrey Commune Authority and Phnom Kravanh District Office of Education, Youth, and Sports expressed their gratitude to the donors and LHCO for organized this event. Mrs. So Youn, Managing Director of HTHIUM, and Mrs. Liu Li, Director of Cooperation Development Department of Amity also attended the ceremony. She commended the local authorities, teachers, and parents for their dedication to improving education in the area. She emphasized the alignment of this project with the national development goals of Royal Government of Cambodia under the leadership of Samdech Techo Prime Minister. Lastly, Mrs. Liu Li was also embracing the key note to all students for keeping in mind: 1. to study hard, 2. do only good things for the benefit of themselves, family and society, 3. please stay away from drugs use and alcohol drinks, 4. continue to behave as a good child, good friend and good student in a society and 5. request for take care of equipment to ensure its longevity.

Signed Partnership Agreement

On August 6, 2024, Lutheran Hope Cambodia Organization - LHCO and Heifer International Cambodia signed a partnership agreement for two projects: Poultry Project of National Pride in Cambodia (PPNP) and Cambodia Vegetables Value Chain Development project (CVCD). The projects focus on 1). Improving good governance and institutional capacity of agriculture cooperatives; 2). Improving social cohesion and trust within the community 3). Access to impact capital to scale up the agribusiness of smallholder farmers; 4). Increasing production and profitability; 5). Facilitating the access to affordable, reliable, and environmentally sustainable power, water services, and digital business platforms; and 6). Enhancing market system and distribution. Through this partnership, LHCO and Heifer International Cambodia are committed to contribute to improving the livelihoods of agricultural cooperatives and farmers.
